Melbourne The Selfie Capital of Australia

I am an avid photographer and whenever I travel I love to take pictures. However when it comes to Melbourne and the region around it  i.e . the entire state of Victoria. I would like to be seen in a lot of those pictures. So much so that I have created a list of places that I would like to visit and take a selfie at all these beautiful places.

Though the list is in random order however I would like to start with the The City Circle Tram
The point I want to make it that Melbourne is a very safe (As a girl traveler I am really excited about this!) and tourist friendly city. That’s the reason that it offers an opportunity to see the city completely free by using the City Circle Tram. This tram goes through the city and one can view all the attractions of the city . The best part is that one can get off at any station and get on to the next tram after walking the streets, enjoying a quick snack or as in my case take a Selfie ;)
I am a die hard chocolate lover and how is it possible for any chocolate lover not to visit the Pannys Phillip Island Chocolate Factory.
Watch this pic Its so much chocolate that I could go on eating it forever.I have to take a selfie here.

Talking of Die hard ,there is a die hard cricket fan in me. How can I not come to Melbourne and not take a selfie at the MCG

Besides 2015 is the best time to  visit Australia and Melbourne as it is the co-host of the 2015 cricket world cup. Dhoni,Virat & the gang ke saath Ek Selfie to Banta Hai Boss (One selfie with Dhoni ,Virat and the rest of the team is a must )

Even before I start packing for my trip the little cute penguin at Phillip island with their lovely antics are always so inviting. Dear penguins here I come to take a selfie with you,so get ready to say cheese.

Though I am a laid back and leisure loving traveler but the food & specially the wine of the Yarra region gives me a compelling reason to travel to Melbourne and of course every meal is a selfie opportunity with a plate filled with gastronomical delights.

The nature lover in me is eager to experience that memorable and breathtakingly beautiful balloon ride over Yarra valley at sunrise. Sunrise in Australia I want to bring you back home in my selfie!
Guys I can no longer restrain the shopaholic in me who is dragging me to the Queen Victoria market which has some amazing wares and foodstuff on display.
I thank my stars that I learnt to drive and the best utilization of my skills would be when I drive along the Great ocean road in a convertible and let all that ocean breeze pass through my hair.

Twelve Apostles here I come I want to take a selfie with you beautiful rock edifices jetting out of the ocean.
When I am on a Selfie spree that how can I not go to the Eureka Skydeck which is the highest public vantage point in the whole of Southern Hemisphere. As  “The Edge” which happens to be a glass cube sliding out of the building with me inside will provide the perfect site for some panoramic selfie’s  at a height of 285 metres!
Riding in the Puffing Billy  will be another memorable experience as I ride through the spectacular Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne.

Guys the memory card of my phone is almost full with all the selfies that I took yet there are so many more places that I would love to visit and take a selfie in. However my question to you is

Answer this question and stand a chance to win a shopping voucher The contest runs from the 31st dec 2014 to 5th Jan 2015

Kitna chain hota hai sachchai mein

I am a small town girl. I am very happy that both my mother and father have been  very caring parents, looking after me to the best of their capability. They have instilled in me good moral values and most importantly the habit of speaking the truth. According to them speaking lies weighs heavily on your conscience and makes you restless. All my childhood was spent in their supervision and loving guidance.
I did my schooling in an environment that was secure and protected and I had no great interactions with the outside world. My daily routine comprised of going to school and coming back home. The school hours were spent under the strict supervision of the teachers and at home I was under the loving care of my parents.
Then I completed school and joined a college. Every thing was completely new for me, the environment and the people. I felt like the young bird which has just left its nest. I had to fend for myself and carve out my own path.
My parents were greatly happy that I had embarked on a new phase of my life. At the same time they were also fearful that I may not fall into bad company, as the students   were a varied lot with different thoughts and perceptions of life. Although they were sure that their teachings would come to my aid and help me in choosing the right path, they imposed certain rules for me to follow. I was not to be gullible and misled by the ideas of my fellow class mates and other students with whom I came into contact daily. I was to follow my instincts in determining the good from the bad and above all I was not to loiter aimlessly and there were to be no late night parties or gatherings for me. I was not allowed to attend events that meant being away from home in the evenings and of course the nights were a big taboo for me. Although I knew this was for my good but I felt as if my wings had been clipped even before I could fly.
I soon had a group of friends but they were a variable lot, coming from different backgrounds, they did not believe in restrictions. We were all on a new ground and keen to explore and experiment. We all wanted to savor our new found freedom. Just a few months after my joining college a trip was organized which involved coming back home late at night. I knew that it was not for me, knowing well that my parents would never permit me to go on such a trip.
My group of friends insisted that I join them and also suggested that I should tell my parents that as I had to attend some extra classes I would be coming home late. They also assured me that they would talk to my parents about my need of attending these classes.
It was such a tempting thought that I gave in and agreed to join the group. So I phoned my mother and told her that I would be coming home late as I had to attend these classes. Before she could agree or disagree I hung off the phone. Soon we were off on the trip. It was a very gay atmosphere with everyone laughing, cutting jokes and singing. But for me something was missing. I had never behaved like this before nor spoken a statement that was not true. The trip had lost its sheen for me and the thought that I had spoken a lie weighed heavily on my mind. I was restless and knew that I had to come out with the truth. So I phoned home and told my mother the truth .She heard me out and then spoke softly asking me to enjoy the trip. Suddenly a weight lifted from my heart and I found myself relaxed and smiling.

Let a Magical Vacation Unfold

Going on vacations means for us the elders a change ,a break from the routine but not so for the children. They are not satisfied with the ordinary. Their ever fertile imaginations are always on the look out for an adventure ,a thrilling experience. When planning a vacation with the children many things have to be kept in mind. Their expectations are huge and their fun loving spirit makes every moment special. After all such a vacation does not happen frequently, when your children are 24x7 with you and you can pamper them to your heart’s content while enjoying their presence. They make every minute more fun and meaningful, without any dull moment. They are like the fairies weaving a magical mantle around you.
I have the perfect recipe for making every vacation magical. The process starts by selecting the destination usually shortlisting a couple of them and giving the children an opportunity to select one from the list. This task makes the little geniuses put their heads together and after some excited discussions they come up with their choice.
After this is done comes the task of selecting that perfect place to stay which should be family friendly or rather children friendly and has all the facilities which would make the stay special and memorable for the kids.
There are several places which offer special activities for the children like holding workshops on pottery, painting and drawing and are going to be a sure hit with the kids. This would not only bring out their hidden talents by giving them a free hand but also keep them happy and pleasantly occupied. After all this is what we want, the best of both the worlds making both the parents as well as the kids happy. The children are like the rainbow spreading their myriad colors. When the children enjoy their joy is reflected on the faces of the parents. This is another important ingredient that goes into making the vacation magical.
This is the best chance to indulge in their favorite sports either by being an active participant or sitting back to see them enjoy. Their chatter and their laughter bring a complete change to the surroundings and the atmosphere making the days a time to wonder at the magic created by them and causing the ordinary and humdrum to acquire a special look. Listening to them recount their day’s experiences before going to bed makes us the parents feel that all the trouble had been worthwhile. These are the moments which are enjoyed by both the children as well as the parents and they make up the magical experience of the vacation more and more memorable. Before this vacation is over we start planning another magical experience because we want to grasp these magical moments of being with your children again and again.

My Love for Saffron

Saffron also known as kesar is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus, commonly known as the saffron crocus always fascinated me.Since childhood saffron is being used in our home in pulav, kheer, milk, kulfi, phirni and many other delicacies.

What makes Saffron the most expensive spice in the world?
Well around 80,000 flowers are required to make approx 453 grams of saffron. When the violet blue flower opens the saffron stigmas are collected. And an interesting fact is that the stigmas of saffron are only picked at dawn; the reason is it is done just before the opening of the flower and to preserve the aroma and properties.

Saffron is
 -Anti oxidant
 -Prevent diseases
 -antiseptic
 -antidepressant
 -digestive
 -anti-convulsant

Its a good source of minerals
 -copper
 -potassium
 -calcium
 -manganese
 -iron
 -selenium
 -zinc
 -magnesium

Thats why it helps to control heart rate and blood pressure.

Saffron contains a-crocin,zea-xanthin, lycopene, a- and ÃŸ-carotenes antioxidants that protects our body from
 -stress
 -cancer-infections

How to use saffron threads effectively
-Saffron threads can be added directly to the food preparations
-Make a paste using saffron threads using traditional mortar and pestle and then add to the recipes
-Take few saffron threads add to a cup of hot water  and then add this water to the recipes

Saffron is used for flavour and colour for  food and drinks

 Saffron to treat baldness :
Take 1 tbsp liquorice root pieces (mulathi) and grind it to a paste with 1 cup milk. Add ¼ tsp saffron (kesar) to  the paste.Apply this on the bald patches daily before going to bed.

 Saffron for Body Swelling
 1 teaspoon honey
 a pinch of saffron (kesar)
 cardamom
 rose water (gulab jal)
and sprinkle all of these on mango slices. It really works if taken twice daily

 Saffron to recover from Fever
Take half a teaspoon of saffron in 30 ml of boiling water.Give a tsp of this tea to the patient every hour till  the temperature returns to normal.Take twice daily.

 or

Take 4 basil leaves, saffron 7 shreds and 7 black pepper.Grind them to a paste by adding water and form small tablets out of the whole lot. Take each tablet twice or thrice everyday with lukewarm milk.

 Saffron For Menstrual pains
Boil 1 teaspoon saffron (kesar) in ½ cup water. Let it reduce to become 1 tablespoon. Divide this decoction into
three portions and take with equal quantities of water, thrice daily for a couple of days.

 Saffron for Old age problems
Boil 1 teaspoon ginger (adrak) in 1 cup water till reduced to ½ cup. Add to it ½ cup cow's milk, 2 pieces of cardamom, 5 strands of saffron (kesar) and 1 teaspoon sugar. Drink every morning.

Saffron is a must for winters
 -Saffron improves vision
-prevents age related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the most common cause of sight loss in the elderly.
 -treat depression
-Saffron tea is known to cause feelings of happiness
 -Improves blood circulation
 -Saffron is a natural Aphrodisiac
-inhibits the growth of malignant cancer cells

It is very important to know that you are using only genuine saffron.
So test it and immerse a bit of the produce in warm water or milk. If the liquid turns yellow immediately, then the
saffron is fake. Pure saffron must steep in either warm water or milk for at least 10 to 15 minutes before its deep
reddish-gold colour or a dark yellowish colour permeates in the water or milk and the saffron aroma begins to develop.

Tip:Always soak the saffron for at least around 8-10 hours before it can be used ( most of the benefits of saffron are achieved through saffron infused in milk or water ).So its best to leave it overnight.

I use only Organic saffron threads because its 100% Organic Certified only offering extremely high grade saffron

Most beneficial ways to use saffron
-Blend a few threads of saffron with milk and drink it regularly, your complexion will recover naturally and your
skin will become healthier from the inside.

 - Grind a few saffron threads with olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil or sesame oil to massage your skin. Massaging your skin with these oils gives brighter and softer skin

No wonder that Cleopatra used to indulge in a hot saffron bath. She used saffron as a type of cosmetic.
In ancient times people used to sleep with pillows stuffed with saffron to cure hang overs.

A very interesting recipe one must try :

Saffron cake

1 tsp saffron strands
125ml milk
500g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
½ tsp dried, fast-action yeast

250g cold butter, cut into cubes, plus extra for greasing
250g caster sugar
300g currants

Method
Grease a baking tray with butter.Heat the saffron strands and milk in a pan over a medium heat until the milk mixture has turned yellow and is almost simmering.
In a bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, salt and nutmeg until well combined.
Add the butter and sugar and rub in using your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the currants until well combined.
Pour over the saffron-infused milk and stir until the mixture comes together as a soft dough.
Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead lightly until smooth.
Transfer the dough to the prepared baking tray. Cover with a damp tea towel and set aside in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until risen.
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F
Transfer the baking dish to the oven and bake for 45 minutes to one hour, or until the cake is pale golden-brown and has risen.

Me & Road Safety

When man gave up his nomadic lifestyle and became a settler he built roads to connect various settlements. As civilization progressed a set of rules were decided upon to ensure the safety of the commuters on these roads. In today's India when our roads are filled with automobiles  these traffic rules are even more relevant then ever to ensure the safety of  the drivers and commuters on the road.
It is not only important to follow the traffic rules but also have some common road courtesy. As honk only when needed, not play loud music in our cars, do not put fancy distracting lights.  Keeping a safe distance from the car moving ahead is a very import thumb rule to be followed. As it give you time to stop your vehicle in case the vehicle in front of you makes a sudden stop.
Its very important that we use the indicator when we make a turn while driving or stopping.
Abrupt stopping of vehicle and making sudden turns on the road without giving a signal can cause an accident. We live in the world of internet.  Sites like Facebook,Youtube, Instagram form our opinions. Such sites can be used to create awareness about road safety, importance of following traffic rules and more importantly how to be safe ourselves and keep others safe. I firmly believe that road safety begins with me .I believe in responsible driving following the signs and directions. I follow the speed limits and I would prefer that others do the same. For safe driving people should not talk on their mobile while driving. They should always wear seat belts and stick to their lanes. They should not honk without the necessity.
NSDF or Nissan Safety Driving Forum is a nationwide road safety campaign That was started by the Nissan motor company limited. Its purpose is to create an awareness amongst the masses about responsible driving.
It focuses on road safety issues like we must always follow rules and wear the seat belt while driving.
The importance of seat belts emphasized by this demonstration by NSDF (image source https://www.nissan.in/innovation/NSDF.html )

Catch them Young. A youngster being educated about road safety and use of seat belt while driving (image source https://www.nissan.in/innovation/NSDF.html )

This campaign has been initiated in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. This year it would be covering
8 new cities – Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Vadodara, Nagpur, Chennai, Mangalore and Kochi.

A picture is worth a thousand words so I have created these graphics to show my support for this cause

Additional information about NSDF can be found Here The Nissan Safety Driving Forum.

My Victory over fear

In my childhood I was a most carefree child ,always on the move never sitting still. As far as my memory goes, when I was barely three years old ,I was a most independent child.I never liked the idea of being dependent on any one be it for taking a bath or getting dressed up.I was very particular in selecting the dress I was going to wear for the day and would often reject my mother’s choice of clothes. I was a child who knew what I exactly wanted. I even refused help in the buttoning of my clothes ,which I did myself though in a  topsy- turvy manner. So as a child I was a happy contented, self willed and confident child who did not know what the word fear meant .Till date fear was a stranger for me as it had not yet touched my life and for me that something called fear did not exist.
It was my usual practice to get dressed and go out of the house and have a view of the passers by from the gate. Then one day I ventured out on the road lured by the long black stretch because I wanted to know what lay at the end of it. It was a mystery for me which fascinated me and make me walk out. I walked for a small stretch  and then stopped, thinking that I would explore further the next day. Made bold by my venture I again walked out on the road. I was walking jauntily all dressed up in my favorite dress ,unconcerned about the idea of the cars passing by. Suddenly there was a loud screeching of brakes behind me. I stood petrified, unable to move. An unknown strange feeling gripped me, which I later realized was fear. It had made me its prey, digging deep into my heart, making me numb and unable to move. I turned back  and saw a severe car crash and one of the cars had even caught fire. The drivers were profusely bleeding and it was quite a gory sight.Just then my mother finding me missing came rushing out of the house and picked me up in her arms. I snuggled close to her and closed my eyes .All my confidence came crashing down and I broke down into uncontrollable sobs.
From that day onwards I started fearing fast moving cars and the screeching sounds produced by them. Now I knew what fear meant. There was no escape for me from it.
When my college friends talked of Formula1 Racing ,I knew that  I would never be able to go and watch this event. They even made fun of me calling me a coward. Then my mother came to my rescue and told me that fear was just a stranger and I had the power in me to throw it out of my system. She instilled in me a new confidence and told me that to be victorious I had to catch the bull by its horns. I became determined to do the impossible and decided to sit in a racing car. I soon got this opportunity as a company was giving a chance to a lucky few to enjoy a ride in their racing car. I got selected and knowing that this was the moment to prove myself I set off to attend the event. Surprisingly I did not even have an iota of that fear which had so long haunted me.
The organizers were doubtful that I being a girl could do it as many boys were looking squeamish and afraid. I knew that I could do it and felt very happy .The result was that seeing my enjoyment and happiness I was given the chance to do three laps instead of one.
I had defeated my enemy and was at last victorious. Praises were showered on me and every one looked at me with wonder. It was a feat no less than putting my flag on the Everest.

A Cup of Good Health with Tulsi Tea

I am a tea lover. When I was in college we had a tea group and we never left any opportunity to raid the college

canteen and enjoy the tea with hot samosas.
Times have changed so have I, but one thing that has not changed is my love for tea.But yes with a variation, now I Love Tulsi Tea.

Tulsi is also known as basil leaves. Its a wonder herb.Tulsi is known for more than 5,000 years.Its commonly found in almost every household in India. An important symbol in the Hindu religious traditions and is worshiped in the morning and evening by lighting a diya before it. People are generally unaware of its numerous health benefits.

I start my day with Hot Tulsi tea which refreshes my mind and soul, I wonder whats so special about this plant that makes me relax and calms my nerves.Well its an eye opener.Every part of the plant from roots to stem and flower has its significance. It is said that Tulsi is sacred because Brahma resides in the roots, Vishnu resides in the stems and leaves and Rudra resides in the flowering tops. But yes it has healing powers too.

Image © http://therisingstarz.blogspot.in/

It has numerous medicinal properties

- The Tulsi leaves are a nerve tonic and sharpens the memory

- Chewing tulsi leaves relieves cold and flu
- Water boiled with basil leaves can be taken as a drink in case of sore throat
- A decoction of the leaves, with honey and ginger is an effective remedy for bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough
and cold. A decoction of the leaves, cloves and common salt also gives immediate relief in case of influenza.    .
- Basil has strengthening effect on the kidney. In case of renal stone the juice of basil leaves and honey, if
taken regularly for 6 months will expel them via the urinary tract.
- Basil has a beneficial effect in cardiac diseasesIt reduces the level of blood cholesterol.
- Basil leaves are regarded as an anti-stress agent.Chew 12 leaves of basil, twice a day, to prevent stress. It    purifies the blood.
- Effective for ulcers and infections in the mouth.
- The herb is a prophylactic or preventive and curative for insect stings or bites.Fresh juice must also be applied to the affected parts. A paste of fresh roots is also effective in case of bites of insects and leeches
-  Basil juice is beneficial in the treatment of ringworm and other skin diseases
- The herb is also useful in teeth disorders. Its leaves, dried in the sun and powdered, can be used for brushing teeth. It can also be mixed with mustered oil to make a paste and used as toothpaste. This is very good for maintaining dental health, counteracting bad breath and for massaging the gums. It is also useful in pyorrhea and other teeth disorders.

How to prevent Dengue with Tulsi, yes dengue,a common problem which is breaking down the immune system.Although many sprays and medicines are being prescribed for its prevention a very simple way is Tulsi.

Malaria and dengue fever are widely prevalent

--Take the tender leaves of Tulsi, boil them  with tea, The leaves act as a preventive measure against theses diseases.

In case of acute fever, a decoction of the leaves boiled with powdered cardamom in half a liter of water and mixed

with sugar and milk brings down the temperature. The juice of tulsi leaves can also be used to bring down fever.

Extract of tulsi leaves in fresh water should be given every 2 to 3 hours. It is every effective in bringing down the temperature. The juice of Basil leaves is 'Katu' and 'Tikt'. It's active ingredients are hot which do not allow virus to grow in the body,

Now how to get the most of this Oueen of herbs "Tulsi" in our daily lives. It is infused with healing power - for the

body, mind and soul.In this fast moving pace of life when we hardly have time for our family and self.We all are
