Grand parents are like precious jewels. The more you care
for them the more they sparkle and shine. They cared for us and looked after us
when we were little. They taught us to speak and made us walk our first tiny
steps. T hey were always there to hold us when we stumbled. They have always
been great story tellers and took us into realms of fantasy.
As a child I have been very closely associated with my
grandmother. She was always there to help me and protect me and whenever I
needed help or advice she was always by my side.
I still remember the day when there was a fancy dress
competition in my school. She encouraged me to take part in it. She diligently
stitched a gorgeous lehnga choli for me as she wanted to send me as a village
belle. She went to the dhobi’s house and took on loan the silver anklets and
necklace from his wife. To complete the look she also gave me a small earthen
pot which she had decorated with mirrors.
This was not all she also accompanied me to school. All my
teachers greatly appreciated my get up. We all paraded before the judges and to
my delight I was selected for the first prize. When the moment for the prize
distribution came I caught hold of her hand and took her on stage. It was a
proud moment for both of us.
I used to snuggle by her side and listened in wonder as she
narrated tales of fairies from her endless store of stories.
When ever I wanted my favorite dishes I would whisper in her
ears and when I came from school my grand mother would serve them to me.
Her constant care and presence gave me confidence. Not only did it make me happy but also saved
me from the vicious circle of depression.
Now it is my turn. It is time to #LoveJatao for my grand mother as it is
going to be her special day. I want to make the day memorable for her and make
her feel extra special.
My grandmother had glorious hair which she tended with great care.
Regular oiling and massage were her secrets. It was her passion to try out new
hair styles. She would constantly pore into books depicting new hair styles and
then styling her hair accordingly.
So I bought a book on hair care and with the latest hair styles that were
beautiful to look at and at the same time easy to design. I went to my grand
mother and kept the book on her lap. She turned the pages one by one and there
was a beatific smile on her face when she finally looked up at me. I led her to
the mirror and handed to her the favorite mother of pearl comb and requested
her to give herself a new style. Her nimble fingers began to work and soon she
stood transformed with a new hair style that added to her timeless grace.
I look forward to hear from you how would you celebrate Grandparents Day. Do share a selfie with your grandparents on Sept. 10, 2017 on Twitter or Facebook with #LoveJatao & tag @blogadda to win a goodie from Parachute Advansed.
